PASSION PILGRIMAGE
Journey along the Way of the Cross

The 18 pieces in this series mark some of the signposts in Jesus’ journey from Passion Sunday to Easter.

Many Christians operate out of a conviction that this pathway of suffering and death was Jesus' destiny, but these pieces grew out of my conviction that the journey of suffering and death was not Jesus' destiny but our own. Out of love for humankind, Jesus chose to walk this path in order that he might return to serve as guide and companion to us in our own encounters with suffering and death.

Convinced that the Passion of Christ is a timeless drama in which each Christian plays a role, my work incorporates such personal touches as impressions of my own hands, feet, and lips, as well as mementos from countries where I have lived and traveled. The pieces are fashioned from commercial, hand-dyed, hand-painted, and computer-generated cotton and synthetic fabrics. The pieces reflect a variety of construction techniques, as well as embellishment with stenciling, stamping, beading, handmade polymer clay forms, and improvisational stitching.

Each piece measures 12.75 inches by 12.75 inches.
