GREEN BLADES RISING
(30 inches by 53.5 inches, installation dimension)
Now the green blade rises from the buried grain,
wheat that in the dark earth many days has lain;
laid in the earth, like grain that sleeps unseen;
love is come again like wheat arising green.

This work uses the image of buried grain bursting forth in new life to mark the significance of Jesus’ resurrection from the tomb.

This work was constructed from commercial cotton and synthetic fabrics and cotton fabrics from which I selectively removed the dye using a Shibori pole-wrap technique. It was embellished with stitching and found objects (tiles from a wooden trivet).

This work was selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of Salt of the Earth Christian seasons calendar.
