My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

I often turn to Psalm 22 during those times and seasons when I feel bereft, forsaken by God. I derive comfort from the realization that Jesus clung to the words of this psalm during that time on the cross when he, too, felt forsaken by God.

This work was created from artist-dyed and screen-printed cotton fabric, hemp fabric from a repurposed garment screen-printed with excerpted news reports of violence, and commercial synthetic fabric. It was appliquéd, couched with cording, and embellished with oil paint and improvisational machine- and hand-stitching.
