![]() ERKOMAI
(39 inches wide by 15 inches high)
from this time on and for evermore. One of my favorite Greek words is "erkomai" (ΕρΧομαι), a verb that can mean either to go or to come. During seminary, we used to joke that ours was the Erkomai Class, because we didn't know whether we were going or coming. All these years later, I am more attuned to the truth that resides behind the humor. In our more-better-faster culture, many are so frazzled and disoriented that they really do not know whether they are going or coming. As one who often feels challenged to discern whether I am going or coming, these words of Psalm 42 offer powerful assurance of the faithfulness of God's care both in times of movement and in times of stasis. This work was created from artist-dyed silk, which was appliquéd with synthetic taffeta and embellished with improvisational machine- and hand-stitching. |
