DAY OF PALMS III and IV
(15.5 inches by 18 inches and 17 inches by 19 inches)
These works were fashioned from cotton fabric from which I selectively removed the dye, constructed into a pieced surface, and then selectively dyed. I then used paint to introduce a variety of marks to that surface and rayon, cotton, and metallic threads to add texture with improvisational machine stitching. The result creates an impression of surprising depth that invites deeper exploration of its multiple layers.

These works were juried into Considering Quilts 2006 at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and Fabric of Legacies at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. They were also selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of Salt of the Earth Christian seasons calendar.
